Here is a video ive been working on, Im onto a new one and thought I woud release this one to the public. Let me know what you think, comment on youtube and follow.
This is my buddy MD, with a very nice steely out of a small creek (butte creek). We are currently working on a video that we should have out within the next 30 days. It’s always good to surround yourself with people that share the same passion as you, it fuels the fire. Missions to uncharted territories, the thrill of new water and the next big fish propels us to hone our skills. Fuel the passions that make you who you are.
We are all enjoying the steelhead runs in our local waters, but I wanted to take a moment and reflect on the salmon run that preceded it. This is one of the salmon I got on my Bday trip to the coast. The local waters get packed with the seasonal fisherman trying to snag salmon out of the river and on to their kitchen table. Thinking back on this combat fishing mentality makes you love the cold solitude of steelhead fishing just a little more.
Here is a great link to one of the sites i regularly check in on, make sure to enter!
Atlantic Salmon, Beautiful Colors. Atlantic Salmon unlike their cousin can rejuvenate themselves after spawning and spawn a couple times. These fish almost look like ocean run browns. The Atlantic Salmon is also very picky when it comes to beginning their spawning run, meaning they can enter an estuary but if they dont like the temperature or flow they have the ability to turn around, head back for big water and try again next year. This makes for some seasoned, smart and amazing fish, hopefully one day ill take this trip. It’s on my bucket list.
I haven’t got my steelhead pics off my buddies camera, but i did get a lot of stuff done around the house. I would have loved to be on the water today it was beautiful, but as every true angler knows the key is to find the balance between work, relationship, and your passion for fishing.
The weather was freezing, but we were able to land 4 fish. I have a new favorite type of fishing. The “Dry Drift” it’s when you swing a smolt pattern dry with no weight. This top water action is amazing! The tug of the line and the explosion of top water action for steelhead is an unbelievable feeling. If you have never tried this you should definitely get out there and give it a shot, it’s simply amazing.
